WebWindow versions; To check which version you are using, click on Help, About WebWindow or press Ctrl+A. Note; Only major changes and recent versions of WebWindow are displayed here. To see the full list versions go to http://webwindow.markagius.co.uk/history/versionhistory.htm 0.00.0000 (22/05/1999 - 8:42pm) First version. 0.00.0002 ( 5/08/2000 - 6:34pm) First version uploaded to the Internet. 0.00.0023 (10/06/2009 - 9:00am bst) Added *.cfm, *.eml and *.ftp to the list of file types you can view the source code from. (You can now view the source code from the following file types; htm, html, shtml, mht, ftp, asp, cfm, eml and txt) You can now set the date format to the US format in the options window if you wish. ( M-DD-YYYY) The date ( D/MM/YYYY or M-DD-YYYY) format is used in View - Page info and when viewing/saving html files. Added the following URL address commands; about:List = Displays a list of all the about: commands. about:BrowserName = Displays 'WebWindow' name with this browser. about:WebWindowVersion or about:WWVersion = Will display the WebWindow version number. about:WebWindowFullVersion or about:WWFullVersion = Will display the WebWindow version number and date. about:Help, about:Info, about:Information or about:WebWindow = Loads your local Help.htm page. about:WebWindowBlog or about:Blog = Loads the Internet WebWindow blog web page. about:Search <SEARCH PATTERN> = Will load your search engine and search for <SEARCH PATTERN>. about:Date or about:Time = Will display your local date and time. about:FullDate or about:FullTime = Will display your local date, time and time zone. about:TimeZone = Will display your local time zone. about:GMTDate, about:GMTTime, about:UTCDate or about:UTCTime = Will display the GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) / UTC (Universal Time Coordinated) date and time. Note: All the about: commands can be entered into the address bar or opened with a page link. Please remember when creating your own web page that most of the commands will not work with other browses. They will work in the top page (No frame) or a frame/i-frame but may not work in a frame/i-frame within a frame/i-frame. The following two line will only work with WebWindow; (From version 0.00.0023) WebWindow version; International time; Note: As about:Search <SEARCH PATTERN> will search for the <SEARCH PATTERN>, all the stored search engine addresses have been edited to include the search string pattern. If the address dose not include a question mark and end with '=' then the page will open with out the search string. The new addresses are; http://www.google.co.uk/search?q= http://search.yahoo.com/search?q= http://search.microsoft.com/Results.aspx?qsc0=0&q= http://search.aol.com/aol/search?q= http://search.winamp.com/search/search?s_it=searchbox.webhome&query= http://uk.ask.com/web?qsrc=1&o=0&l=dir&q= http://us.ask.com/web?qsrc=1&o=0&l=dir&q= http://www.bing.com/search?q= http://www.altersearches.com/ <NO SEARCH PATTERN> http://www.dealio.com/ <NO SEARCH PATTERN> To add other search engines, go to the search engine web site and search for anything. Then copy the URL up to but now including the search string. Eg. Google search for 'WebWindow' = 'http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=WebWindow&meta=&aq=f&oq=' So copy 'http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=' into the File - Options - Options edit window. 0.00.0024 (12/06/2009 - 8:00pm bst) Added the following URL address commands; about:Readout = Read out loud the whole page. (Title of page and frames are NOT read out, but are if you click on Speech - Read out page) about:Readout=<A MESSAGE> = to read out loud a message. 0.00.0026 (17/07/2009 - 8:45am bst) If the page link starts with JavaScript:, VBScript:, about: etc then the address bar is not updated when page finishes loading. (This stops javascript: etc. being displayed in the address bar if you click on a link that runs Javascript or VBScript code) (Version 0.00.0024 only stoped JavaScript:, VBScript:, about: being displayed until page finished loading) Added *.php and *.stm to the list of file types you can view the source code from. Added a WebWindow icon to the left of the address bar. This icon will be referred to as the 'WebWindow icon' or the 'page icon', as it is used in saving or loading into other programs the current web page. Drag this icon into a directory window to save a shortcut to the current page. * Hold down the CTRL key and then drag icon into a directory window to save the current page. * (This is quicker than using the File Save option) Drag this icon into any other browser window to load the current page there. (Can drag to; WebWindow, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, AOL, Google Chrome, Firefox etc) Drag this icon into any email window to send email message with a link to the current page. * Note; You can not drag and save to the My Computer, Control Panel, Recycle Bin or a Search Results window. If the directory was opened with a shortcut file or the directory was opened from a directory, that was opened with a shortcut file, then the directory path will be incorrect. If this page is closed with the Javascript:window.close() command, then the whole window and not just the browser part will now close. In the options window, you can set WebWindow to display a warning or not when the page tries to close the window with the Javascript:window.close() command. Renamed the main EXE file from MarksWebWindow.exe to WebWindow.exe 0.00.0027 ( 3/08/2009 - 3:00pm bst) If you click on the 'page icon' with CTRL held down, then the file type icon image for the currently loaded page will be used while dragging icon. The WebWindow icon will still be used when dragging without CTRL to create a shortcut file. In version 0.00.0026 the same WebWindow icon was used when saving the file or creating a shortcut file to the web page. If no reference to this file type icon is found in the registry, then WebWindow will use one of the inbuilt images. When drag-dropping the page icon the file name is taken from the page title. If there are any invalid file characters in the page title, then the file character will be swapped.
Old character;"*/<>?\|. (See below)
Replaced by; '--[ ]!-I,
Note; The dot character is also swapped with the comma character, as a dot is used to mark the start of the file extent / file type. Eg. If the page title is; MATHEMATICS / INFO | To multiply enter "10.5 * <Your value> = ?" Then page saves as; MATHEMATICS - INFO I To multiply enter '10,5 - [Your value] = !'.lnk (Shortcut file) or;    MATHEMATICS - INFO I To multiply enter '10,5 - [Your value] = !'.htm (+CTRL to save web page) (Version 0.00.0026 would just display the error 'This page was not saved... directory may be a read only directory.') When drag-dropping the page icon, CTRL pressed is now checked all the time and not just at the start of the drag. (So if you change your mind during the drag, the icon and save action will change from/to a file or shortcut file) When drag-dropping the page icon with CTRL held down. If there is already a file with the same name, a warning to abort saving the page or overwrite the old file is displayed. (This is the same as when creating a shortcut file over an old file) When drag-dropping the page icon with CTRL held down. The end of page address from the first '?', '&' or '#' is removed. (This is the same as File, Saving the page) If you try and CTRL drag a directory to save it as a file, then a message box will tell you that you can only save it as a shortcut file. If you try and CTRL drag a page or file that was not found, then a message box will tell you that the page was not found. (Version 0.00.0026 would think that the file was not saved because the directory was locked) After drag-dropping a page to create a shortcut file. (CTRL was not pressed) Click menu - Properties over the file, then Change Icon.. to select one of the inbuilt icons for this file. In the options window, the window title now has a few entries in a drop down list. (The window title option was only in a text box in previous versions) New menu options added; File - Paste and load URL (F6) = Pastes the clipboard text into the address bar and loads the page. Note; Use File - Paste URL address, (F5) if you wish to edit the address before loading the page. If the page or file is not found, then it won't be added to the history list. You can now copy the selected text and/or readout the selected text from a frame or sub-frame. (Previous versions only worked if the selected text was in the top page and not in a frame) When viewing the source code from an Internet page. The download date is no longer displayed as it hasn't yet been downloaded. (If the 'Add filename and date to source code' option ticked) When saving a HTML file or edited HTML file, the saved file name path is also added to the source code. (If the 'Add filename and date to source code' option is ticked) When saving an edited file, the page address, filename and date is now also added to the source code. (If the 'Add filename and date to source code' option is ticked) If you try to save a forbidden page (Eg. .htaccess) then a warning will let you know that the page was not saved. 0.02.0029 (11/10/2009 - 8:00am bst) In the options window you can now set where the source code is read from. So when viewing the source code or saving a HTML page the data is read from the file as before, or from the browser object. Viewing the source from a page ending with . .../comments.pl?action=rss&article_key=/text-effects/jswavetext.html If 'Get page source code from file' is ticked, then the source code from file comments.pl will be displayed. If 'Get page source code from displayed page' is ticked, then the page code will be displayed that was read from jswavetext.html Note; When viewing the source code from the browser object, any characters not supported by your text editor will be displayed as the '?' or '█' character. Eg. 'Català, 中国简单, Čeština' = 'Català, ????, Ce█tina'. If you enter an invalid file name or path in the options window for the text editor or email program, WebWindow will try to convert it into a valid name. It will then display an error message if it can't. 'Access restricted' message is now said after a short time delay to allow the page/frame to be edited and hidden first. Can now also view the source code from .pl files. In File - Options - Options edit - Browser, you can now set this browser to run in the following languages; ♦ English (As in all previous versions) US English (Eg. Color not colour, favorites not favourites etc.) French (Français) German (Deutsch) Maltese (Malti) Italian (Italiano)
 To set/reset the language from other languages, click on;
EnglishFile - Options...- Options edit - Browser (tab) - Browser language = Select language - O
French Dossier- Options...- Les options éditent - Navigateur (tab)- Langue de navigateur = Select language - O
German Akte - Wahlen... - Wahlen redigieren - Browser (tab) - Browserssprache = Select language - O
MalteseFajl - Opzjoni...- Opzjoni modifikat - Brawzer (tab) - Brawzer lingwaġġ = Select language- O
ItalianLima - Opzioni...- Le opzioni pubblicano- Browser (tab) - Lingua del browser = Select language - S
Note; ♦ The display and menus will not change until you open a new WebWindow window. ♦ The spelling was translated from English with 'Bable fish' and 'Google Translate', so lots of words in the wrong order and misspelt. ♦ The spoken message text will be in the new language, but you may need to select or replace the Speech, Voice with one that supports the new language. English; This is English. - French; C'est français. - German; Dieses ist deutsch. - Maltese; Din hija l-Malti. - Italian; Ciò è italiana. 0.03.0030 (23/04/2010 - 6:00pm bst) Fixed bug in the File - Options... - Restricted site list (Shift+Del) You can now change your password even if there are no websites in the 'to blocked listed'. If you have installed Internet Explorer 8 then...
    about:home will no longer work if typed into the address bar, as a page link in the same window, as a page link to a new window, as a link to a frame/i-frame, as a frame/i-frame or sub frame/i-frame. This also stops it working in all old versions of WebWindow and the Home button if set to about:home. The Netscape/SeaMonkey family of browsers have never supported about:home To get the Home button working again with all versions of WebWindow, click on File - Options... - Options edit Then in the options window under the Program tab, set the 'home page address' from 'about:home' to the real home page address. (This should be the 3rd option down the list) If the page you wish to use as your home page is not listed then; Close the options window. Go to the page you wish to use as your home page. Open the options window again. The page address should now be in the 'Home page address' list. Click on OK to set this as your new home page.
This version now supports about:home even if IE 8 is installed with; ● The Home button. (Even if set to about:home in the options page) ● A link to about:home in this window. ● A link to about:home in a new window. (about:home in frames/iframes and sub frames are not supported (Unless you are still using IE 7)) 0.04.0031 (12/06/2010 - 4:30pm bst) When using your search engine on the main window, the end of the URL is now removed. Eg. Search box URL = 'http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=' Main page URL = 'http://www.google.co.uk/' Older versions of WebWindow would use 'http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=' for the search box and the main page. Using 'http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=' stopped working for a short time in May 2010 as Google displayed 'Your search did not match any documents' as it failed to find any matches with ''. You can now turn off the navagition error warning, in the options browser tab. If 'Report navigation errors' is not ticked, then you will see no error message boxes or hear any error reports. The error will still be added to the list of errors displayed in the View - Error list window. The string 'WebWindow 0.04.0031' is now added to user-agent and app-version. (* Note 1) This means that the web page can now check using Java script, (* Note 2) if it's being displayed with WebWindow and the version or some other browser. Your user-agent string is; (navigator.userAgent) (Note 1; The navigator.appVersion string is 'browser code name +navigator.userAgent' string) (Note 2; The string 'WebWindow ...' is only added from this version, so the following code won't work with early versions) The Java script code to check if page is displayed with a new version of WebWindow or not is; <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> <!-- if(navigator.userAgent.indexOf(" WebWindow ")>=0){ // WebWindow version 0.04.0031 or later. // Add/edit code here. EG. this.location = "webwindowPage.htm"; } else { // Not WebWindow or version before 0.04.0031 // Add/edit code here. EG. this.location = "OtherBrowser.htm"; } // --> </SCRIPT> Added Start page and Home page to the end of the Favourites menu. Fixed bug when saving some files, (Not html, htm, shtml etc.) from the Internet with 'Convert all line feeds' and/or 'Add filename and date' ticked. In the File, Options..., Options edit window, under the Set file types tab, you can now set the icon to use with different WebWindow files. When this version of WebWindow is out of date, you will still be able to edit the options. (Older versions will disable options window when version is out of date) Note: Windows 95 and Windows 98 users only; The string 'WebWindows 0.04.0031' is not added to the user-agent string with your system. The list of icons in File, Options..., Options edit, Set file types, Edit file icons only lists the WebWindow icons (About 41 icons in total) and not any of the system icons. (Over 230 icons) Windows Vista users only; The string 'WebWindows 0.04.0031' is not added to the user-agent string with sone versions of Windows Vista. The list of icons in File, Options..., Options edit, Set file types, Edit file icons displays the WebWindow and system icons, but only updates some file type icons due to security settings. 0.05.0032 (15/07/2010 - 8:00pm bst) THIS VERSION. If you have Internet Explorer 8 installed on your system, then you can now set this browser to act like IE7 (as before) or IE8. If you are still using IE7 or an earlier version then this option will be disabled. You can set this in File, Options..., Options edit, Browser, Browser type. The 3 options are; ● IE 7 = Display all pages in IE7 mode. Default setting when first run. IE 8 = Display pages in IE8 mode if page designed to use this or a later mode, otherwise displays in IE7 mode. Recommended setting. IE 8 (All pages) = Display all pages in IE8 mode, even if page designed to be displayed by an older version. Not recommended. The User-agent string will be;
      IE 7 mode Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0;... ... ...; WebWindow 0.05.0032)
      IE 8 mode Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0;... ... ...; WebWindow 0.05.0032)
      IE 8 mode (All pages) Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0;... ... ...; WebWindow 0.05.0032)
(Note; This only take effect in a new WebWindows after you update the option.) The user-agent string should now also work on all versions of Windows Vista. Windows 95 and Windows 98 still don't display WebWindow in user-agent string. Windows Vista users: Code to set the file type icon now works with most file types. You can now set WebWindow as your default browser. Click on 'Set WebWindow as the default browser' under the Browser tab in the options window. If WebWindow is already your default browser, then this option will be disabled. Clicking on a Favourites page will load the page into this copy of WebWindow as before. If you hold down the 'shift' key when clicking on a Favourites page, it will now load into a new WebWindow instead. If you hold down the 'ctrl' key when clicking on a Favourites page, it will now load into your default browser. In File - Options... - Options edit, under the Browser tab you can now open the 'Internet options' and 'Firewall settings' windows. You can select SourceEdit.exe in the options page, under the Program tab, source text editor program. Note: This version of SourceEdit.exe can only handle files upto 65,467 bytes. Things to do in future versions. Think about having multiple windows within the main window. Add code to allow user to scale the whole page display. (50%=half size, 100%=normal size, 200%=double size etc.) Get drag-drop to work when dragging to a directory opened by a shortcut file. See version 0.00.0026. Check program and fix any code errors. Note; This program has not been created by a large team of programmers. It was created by just one person. (Me) So bug corrections and upgraded versions may take some time to do.
